Tragic news strikes Ghana’s film sector with the passing of a well-known actor

The Ghanaian film sector is mourning the unfortunate passing of Kumawood performer James Owusu Ansah, famously known as Apaluca.

A report from Ghbase revealed that the information about his death was initially announced by the well-known actor Kwadwo Nkansah, often referred to as Lil Win. He indicated that Apaluca passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Lil Win expressed his sorrow on social media, mentioning that the timing of his friend’s death was particularly heart-wrenching.

“Why did you leave us at this moment? I was about to unveil my new music, which you all would have enjoyed,” Lil Win shared, clearly affected by the loss.

Akwadaa Nyame, Lil Win’s manager, also verified the news on TikTok. He spoke fondly of Apaluca, referring to him as a cherished actor and friend, and noted that everyone at Wezzy Empire is grieving for his loss.

“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear actor and friend, James Owusu Ansah, known as Apaluca,” he stated.

Apaluca was recognized for his distinct physical presence, comedic roles, and impressive dancing abilities, which set him apart in Kumawood films. He appeared in several of Lil Win’s web series, including Debony, where he frequently performed alongside other notable actors like Kwame Ahenfie.

Numerous Ghanaians have begun to share their condolences for the fallen actor. Dan Kwaku Yeboah, a prominent sports journalist and Head of Sports at Despite Media, characterized Apaluca as a gracious and joyful individual who brought happiness to all those around him.

The loss of Apaluca is certainly significant for Kumawood and the broader entertainment industry. He will be honored for his spirited performances, humor, and the happiness he disseminated through his art.

May he find eternal rest.
