Police arrest man for faking robbery and kidnapping in Millennium City

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Benjamin Owusu, for allegedly staging a robbery and kidnapping incident at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City in the Gomoa Nyanyano area.

According to a police statement signed by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, the suspect was picked up on September 24, 2025, after intelligence-led investigators to his hideout at Akatamanso in the Ashanti Region.

The police narrated that the case began on September 3, 2025, at about 3:00 a.m., when the Millennium City District Police Command received a report from a complainant who said he had received a distress message from Owusu, suggesting he was under attack at his residence.

“Following the report, Police visited the supposed scene of crime being the residence of suspect Benjamin Owusu but he was not found in the house. Police however found blood stains on the floor of his bedroom, suggesting he might have been harmed,” the statement explained.

Forensic samples were taken from the scene, but tests later revealed that the blood was not of human origin. Investigations further revealed that the suspect had discarded the SIM card used in sending the fake distress message and had replaced it, making calls from Elubo in the Western Region on September 5, 2025.

Upon his arrest, Owusu reportedly confessed to faking the entire incident.
