C/R: Two suspected robbers lynched after killing Okada rider

Two suspected armed robbers have been lynched after allegedly robbing and killing an Okada rider at Awutu Mampong in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

The suspects reportedly hired the services of 19-year-old Kofi Mensah, an SHS rider, but shot him midway through the journey before fleeing with his motorbike, mobile phone, and an unspecified amount of money. They had tied his hands with a rope before escaping.

Colleagues who discovered Mensah’s body shortly after the attack launched a search in the area, apprehended the suspects, and subjected them to severe beatings that led to their immediate deaths.

Assemblyman for Agona Asafo Electoral Area, Ishmael Odoom, told Citi News he is concerned about the rising spate of robbery attacks on Okada riders in the area.

“Motorbikes are constantly being stolen, sometimes at gunpoint. There are no jobs in this area, and so most of the young boys depend on the okada business for livelihood, but it’s becoming too dangerous. This is an SHS graduate who was trying to make savings towards his university education, and was killed by the robbers,” he said.

The Assemblyman has also urged the police to intensify operations in the area.

All three bodies have been conveyed by the Agona Swedru Police to the Police Hospital
