Apologise to health minister, respect farmers -Twum Boafo slams GRNMA General Secretary

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre, Ing Twum Boafo, has criticised Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), for comments he made regarding the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh’s handling of an incident at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital).

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana program on Friday, August 22, 2025, Ing Twum Boafo stated that Dr Tenkorang-Twum’s verbal attack on the Health Minister not only reflects disrespect for the minister’s office but also for farmers and the broader public.

Ing Twum Boafo cautioned Dr Tenkorang-Twum against using his position to advance narrow political interests instead of advocating for the welfare of nurses across the country.

A prominent figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) urged Dr Tenkorang-Twum to apologise to Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Ghanaian farmers for his condescending and disrespectful remarks.

“Dr Tenkorang should respect farmers. Some people are still quibbling over the result of the last election, and he is the person who ordered the strike of the nurses against this government. When NPP was in power, he did not lead any strike. We have seen the video of what allegedly happened and what point did Ralph attack anyone?

“These political hitch-jobs who find themselves in certain positions can continue what they are doing. He should respect farmers because we are alive today because people decided to farm.

“Just like we should respect nurses. Using his position to do politics is unbecoming of him. I will be the first person to advocate for Ralph to be dealt with if he indeed attacked a nurse because it’s in no one’s place to attack a nurse.

“Insulting the Health Minister because he is a farmer is very unbecoming. Somewhere along our lives, we should be grateful to people who decide to feed. The nurses’ association should tell Dr Tenkorang to apologise to the minister for insulting him. How many nurses or doctors in our political space have been Ministers of Health?” he quizzed.

Dr David Tenkorang-Twum incurred the displeasure of some Ghanaians following his sharp criticism of the health minister’s handling of an incident involving social activist Ralph Saint Williams.

He questioned the competence of the health minister, suggesting that his background as a farmer might hinder his understanding of issues within the health profession.

His comments have since been condemned by the health minister, several prominent political figures and nursing associations.
