Akwatia By-Election: Afenyo-Markin shrugs off ‘ Effutu by-election’ threats from Azorka

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has shrugged off alleged threats from NDC National Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, during Tuesday’s Akwatia by-election.

The confrontation occurred after Afenyo-Markin visited the NDC office unannounced, angering party executives.

Azorka called the move “highly disrespectful” and accused the NPP of using intimidation tactics, while claiming the Minority Leader had threatened NDC supporters.

Afenyo-Markin countered, saying, “I have heard that the NDC’s Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, said that he wants to ‘kill’ me. We know them—the infamous Azorka Boys; all they know is beating people up and killing others. So, this is not his first time threatening people. But I am not a coward,” urging NPP supporters to stay courageous and resist fear.

The by-election, triggered by the death of MP Ernest Kumi, is underway across 119 polling stations with over 50,000 registered voters.

Police confirmed one arrest and maintained tight security to ensure a peaceful process.

The incident highlights the heightened political tension in Akwatia as voters decide between the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu and the NDC’s Bernard Baidoo.
