The Ghana Immigration Service has detailed the circumstances that led to the shooting incident involving two of its personnel in the Tempani District, which left one dead.
In a statement dated November 3, 2025, confirming the attack, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, Maud Anima Quainoo, of the Public Affairs Department, narrated that their personnel, identified as Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I) Philip Lartey and AICO I Cosmos Dakurah, were shot by unknown assailants.
According to the service, the assailants laid an ambush for the officers who were returning from duty on a motorbike.
It stated that the officers, who were unaware of the ambush, were shot by the suspects when they opened fire on them, an incident that occurred on November 2, 2025.
“The Service confirms the attack on two Immigration Officers who were shot at Nangani, in Tempani District in the Upper East Region, on their return from duty on a motorbike. The assailants laid ambush and opened fire on the unsuspecting officers. The distressing incident occurred on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at approximately 20:30 hours,” portions of the statement read.
It further added that one of the officers, despite receiving emergency treatment at the hospital, succumbed to his injuries and lost his life on November 3, 2025.
“The two, Assistant Immigration Control Officer (AICO I) Philip Lartey and AICO I Cosmos Dakurah, endured gunshot wounds and were promptly administered initial medical care at the Basonde Clinic in Tempani before being transferred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. Regrettably, AICO I Cosmos Dakurah later succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the early hours of November 3, 2025.”
Meanwhile, the service has condemned the attack, stating that it has, together with the Ghana Police Service, launched investigations into the matter.
“The Ghana Immigration Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Additional updates will be shared as more information emerges.
“The Service reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of all its officers and pledges to collaborate closely with the appropriate authorities to ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice,” the statement concluded.
