Bawumia is more appropriate to lead the NPP not Ghana – Hamza Suhuyini

A representative from the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Suhuyini, contended that although Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate for the 2024 presidential election, may be well-positioned to lead the opposing party, he lacks the qualifications to govern the nation.

During his appearance on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, August 27, he recognized Dr. Bawumia’s serene nature, poise, and his capability to bring his party together, labeling these traits as strengths that elevate him above other candidates within the NPP.

He expressed assurance that the party’s delegates will likely support the former Vice President in the forthcoming primaries.

“To be candid, Dr. Bawumia is quite impressive. His demeanor is appropriate; he exhibits calmness and restraint. His ability to maintain a focus on the overarching goal of leadership in the New Patriotic Party is praiseworthy. I have no doubt that the delegates will ultimately endorse him,” Mr. Suhuyini stated.

Nonetheless, he emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s qualifications are confined to the party level and do not translate to national leadership. By referencing the former Vice President’s history with economic management, Mr. Suhuyini questioned what innovative approaches Bawumia would bring if he were to assume the presidency.

“Regarding whether he is the right person to lead the nation, I must disagree because I have observed his performance, and I often wonder what exactly Dr. Bawumia intends to accomplish. He struggled to manage the economy during his tenure as Vice President. While he may excel in leading his party, I don’t believe he will be the one to win them the presidency,” he contended.

The NPP is set to elect its candidate in primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, with Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, and Bryan Acheampong as prominent contenders in the race.

Additionally, Miracles Aboagye, a supporter of Dr. Bawumia, has asserted that the former Vice President offers the quickest route to success for the party in the 2028 general elections, maintaining that his performance in the 2024 elections would provide the NPP with a stronger electoral foundation than any newcomer candidate.
