Bryan Acheampong campaign team member, urges Chairman Wontumi to reciprocate support

A significant figure in Dr Bryan Acheampong’s campaign group, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has urged the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, commonly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, to acknowledge the steadfast backing he received from Dr Acheampong during his recent legal challenges.

Dr Acheampong, who is a candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s forthcoming presidential primaries, reportedly played a crucial part in facilitating Wontumi’s release following his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in May due to accusations of fraud and money laundering.

Appiah-Kubi, who also represented Wontumi in this matter, expressed his thoughts during an appearance on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday.

“There is a saying that one good turn deserves another, so I hope that Chairman Wontumi will appreciate the significant contribution Dr Bryan Acheampong made in his political journey and show his gratitude accordingly,” he remarked.

He recalled that when Wontumi was confronted with a bail condition of GHS 50 million, Dr Acheampong stepped in with documentation for surety assets that greatly surpassed the necessary amount, a detail that was officially verified by Wontumi’s legal representatives.

Appiah-Kubi mentioned that Wontumi later paid a visit to Dr Acheampong to convey his gratitude. “From what I understand, Chairman Wontumi indeed valued the assistance Dr Bryan Acheampong provided for him… and I believe that recognizing such support will only result in goodwill,” he further noted.

This appeal comes at a time filled with announcements of support and discreet lobbying as the NPP prepares for its primaries in January 2026, with candidates capitalizing on regional partnerships and historical connections to strengthen their positions in the competition.
