The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for all public basic schools for the 2025/2026 academic year. The calendar applies to public Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools nationwide and includes key dates for term sessions and major activities, including the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a letter signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, the GES has instructed all Regional Directors of Education to circulate the calendar to heads of schools within their jurisdictions. The goal is to ensure nationwide uniformity in teaching and learning.
According to the calendar:
• First Term begins on 2nd September 2025 and ends on 18th December 2025. Vacation runs from 19th December 2025 to 6th January 2026.
• Second Term starts on 8th January 2026 and ends on 1st April 2026, with a short break from 2nd to 20th April 2026.
• Third Term begins on 21st April 2026 and concludes on 23rd July 2026, marking the end of the academic year on 24th July 2026.
Students in Junior High School 3 will follow the same term structure but will sit for their BECE from 4th to 11th May 2026.
Each term will include a two-day mid-term break, with the first scheduled from 31st October to 3rd November 2025. Public holidays will be observed as usual throughout the school year.
The GES urged all school heads to adhere strictly to the new calendar to ensure smooth coordination and effective academic planning nationwide.
