Ghana Music Awards USA Incident: Empress Gifty casts curses on her detractors

Gospel singer Empress Gifty has once again stirred up debate on the internet after facing criticism for being awarded ‘Artiste of the Year’ at the recent Ghana Music Awards USA.

Empress Gifty secured this prestigious title on August 16, 2025, surpassing well-known competitors such as King Promise, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Fameye, KiDi, and King Paluta.

In response to a surge of negative feedback, accusations of her unworthiness for the award, and various attacks, Empress Gifty defended herself in a widely circulated video.

Quoting verses from Psalms 13, 55, and 109, she issued curses and stated that anyone seeking to damage her earned reputation should face God’s judgment.

“I have brought Psalm 109 before God because I am aware that I haven’t done anything wrong, yet some of you are spreading falsehoods about me. I have prayed for God to bring down anyone involved in this.

“To those I’ve shared laughter with, broken bread with, or trusted, if you are now attempting to ruin my reputation, may you encounter sudden demise from the Lord. And for anyone trying to take God’s place, let the Lord’s retribution fall upon you,” she remarked.

Regardless, Empress Gifty insisted that she will not be swayed by the negativity. She stressed that her achievement is a part of history and cannot be altered.

“This is irreversible. No matter your actions, if you count the winners of this award since 2020, my name will be mentioned by the time you reach 2025. The name Empress Gifty will never be disregarded. God has established my name,” she declared.

Empress Gifty’s initial reaction to the criticisms regarding GMA ‘Artiste of the Year’

What seemed to be a simple expression of appreciation towards those who contributed to her success at the Ghana Music Awards USA attracted considerable backlash from frustrated internet users.

In the face of the online criticism, Empress Gifty took to her social media platforms to invoke the spirit of her deceased mother, asking God to reveal and punish anyone scheming against her.
