GOIL PLC has warned the public about a fraudulent video circulating on social media, falsely showing its Group CEO and Managing Director, Edward Abambire Bawa, announcing a supposed government-backed gold project or customer reward scheme.
The company in a statement shared with Citi News on Wednesday, November 5 clarified that it is not involved in any gold-related venture, government-backed project, or customer reward initiative.
GOIL stated that the video is fake, deliberately misleading, and created using artificial intelligence for fraudulent purposes.
GOIL condemned the act of digital impersonation, emphasising that it undermines the trust and credibility the brand has built over decades. The company urged the public to ignore the fabricated content and exercise caution.
Describing the incident as a serious cybercrime, GOIL said it is working closely with security and cybercrime authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ethical business practices and protecting the interests of its customers and stakeholders.
