GoldBod, National Security arrest 25 for illegal gold trade in Accra

The Ghana Gold Board, in collaboration with the Goldbod Taskforce and National Security operatives, has arrested 25 individuals, including both Ghanaians and foreign nationals, for allegedly engaging in illegal gold trading, smelting, and assaying.
Addressing the media on Monday, November 10, 2025, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., said the arrests followed two separate intelligence-led operations conducted at Dome Pillar 2 and Akweteyman-Achimota in Accra.
According to him, the operations led to the seizure of over GH¢64,000 and USD 112,500 in cash, along with several gold bars and other valuable exhibits believed to have been used in the illegal trade.

Mr. Nunekpeku confirmed that all the suspects have been granted police inquiry bail, with some already arraigned before the court, while others remain under investigation.
Reaffirming the Board’s resolve to sanitise Ghana’s gold sector, Mr. Nunekpeku cautioned individuals and entities operating without valid licenses to desist from such activities.
He further emphasized that the Ghana Gold Board, working with security agencies, will continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement across the country to protect Ghana’s mineral wealth and ensure compliance with the law.
