
How to Check BECE Results Online and Avoid Costly Mistakes
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a statement on Saturday, August 23, WAEC announced that results for school candidates will be sent to their schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. Candidates can also check their results online at www.waecgh.org.

A total of 603,328 students registered for the exams, made up of 297,250 boys and 306,078 girls from 20,395 schools. The exams took place in 2,237 centers nationwide. Among the candidates were 72 visually impaired students, 239 hearing-impaired students, and 161 with other special needs. WAEC also reported that 2,526 candidates were absent.
Malpractice Cases and Sanctions
Following investigations into malpractice, WAEC confirmed the following actions approved by its Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee:
Subject results of 718 candidates canceled.
Entire results of 177 candidates canceled.
Subject results of 1,240 candidates withheld.
Entire results of 93 candidates withheld.
In addition, results from 119 schools have been canceled and those from 87 schools withheld for further review.
WAEC explained that all withheld results will either be released or permanently canceled by September 6, 2025, after investigations are complete.
Guidance for Candidates
Students whose results are affected can check the “withheld/canceled results” section on WAEC’s website for updates and instructions. Heads of schools and proprietors may also access the status of their students’ results using their listing logins.
Warning Against Scammers
WAEC cautioned candidates and the public to beware of fraudsters who promise to alter results for money. The Council stressed that BECE results are secure, cannot be changed, and can always be authenticated.
