The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) next election to pick their presidential candidate seems to be changing a lot, as Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a candidate who speaks his mind, is dealing with a new surge of money coming in — this time, from Bryan Acheampong, who is quickly becoming the party’s go-to person for funds.
Political experts say that Agyapong spoke with strong feelings and frustration on VOV Radio in the Hohoe area of the Volta Region, telling voters to refuse “money politics” and instead choose a leader who truly cares about them.
“When we were asking for small amounts of money, where were they? When we didn’t even have cars until recently in 2016, where were these rich people in the NPP? Those giving you money now will leave you after the election,” Agyapong said sadly.
The unusual Member of Parliament, famous for speaking frankly, also asked voters — especially in the Volta Region — to think about what’s best for them in the long run and not just money that they get for a short time.
He said he had gotten over 148,000 acres of land in the region “to make jobs available,” showing that he really wants to help them.
However, political watchers say that Agyapong’s newest comments show that his campaign is getting worried, as Bryan Acheampong, someone who is fairly new to the candidate race, keeps using his money across voting areas.
Kennedy Agyapong, who was once known as the NPP’s example of wealth and doing things on his own, now seems to be dealing with the same “money politics” that he once seemed to control. Because there are reports of lots of money being handed out at campaign events, his moral arguments may not be as strong as the sound of money being exchanged.
