Kennedy Agyapong is not the right choice to lead Ghana – Hamza Suhuyini
Hamza Suhuyini, part of the Communications Team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has rejected the notion that Kennedy Agyapong is fit to take the helm of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He stated that the former MP for Assin Central lacks the necessary temperament and accountability expected from a president.
During a discussion on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, August 27, he evaluated the candidates vying for the NPP leadership. He expressed his belief that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would likely be the preferred choice for the party, while Kennedy Agyapong does not meet the essential criteria for national leadership.
“Some candidates, including Kennedy Agyapong, lack the necessary temperament, leadership skills, and sense of responsibility. As a genuine democrat concerned about the stability of democracy, I would prefer to work with Dr. Bawumia over any other candidates from the NPP,” he remarked.
He contended that the democratic framework in Ghana necessitates leaders who display composure, tact, and discipline in their public roles—qualities he feels Mr. Agyapong does not possess. He warned that promoting such a candidate to the presidential position could threaten the stability of democracy.
Mr. Suhuyini firmly believes that the NPP delegates should consider these factors when they choose a flagbearer on January 31, 2026. He thinks the party would be making a significant error by granting their presidential nomination to those whose behavior contradicts responsible governance.
On a different note, Dr. Stephen Amoah, the MP for Nhyiaeso, has asserted that Kennedy Agyapong stands as the NPP’s best opportunity for victory in the 2028 elections, even while recognizing the valuable contributions and qualifications of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to Ghana’s economic development.
