Dancehall artist Shatta Wale has shared that although Medikal is his top choice for a rapper, he regards Sarkodie as the best Ghanaian rapper ever.
During a discussion with Ghanaian fashion commentator Firestick, who is based in the U.S., the creator of the hit song ‘On God’ clarified that Medikal has a unique significance to him, but it is Sarkodie’s lasting impact, presence, and reliability in the music scene that qualifies him for the title of GOAT (Greatest of All Time).
“My favorite rapper is Medikal. His music resonates with Gen Z, yet when it comes to the greatest artist in history, I would hand that title to Sarkodie,” stated Shatta Wale.
Shatta Wale also mentioned that if Sarkodie were to retire, Medikal would be the perfect candidate to step in. He noted that a lot of new generation rappers emulate Medikal’s style and energy.
“Medikal could easily take over from Sarkodie. What he creates is what many of the younger artists are learning from. The manner in which Medikal delivers his verses is also how a lot of the other artists perform. It’s just that people here don’t acknowledge the reality,” he remarked.
He further drew a parallel between Medikal and renowned international rappers like Central Cee and Lil Baby, asserting that Medikal possesses similar talent. He elaborated that some individuals might not perceive Medikal as “hard” because he adjusts his lyrics to engage the Ghanaian audience.
“In the same way we have Lil Baby and Central Cee, Medikal is on their level, but because we are in Ghana, he customizes his lyrics for our market. If he doesn’t tailor his lyrics for the Ghanaian audience, he won’t thrive,” he stated.
Shatta expressed that while he appreciates intense rap, he values those artists who know how to craft their music to appeal to a broader audience, a skill he believes Medikal excels at.
“I am a huge fan of rap music, but I admire rappers who grasp the commercial side of rap, which is exactly what Medikal does,” he concluded.
