NPP didn’t care when judges and citizens were beaten – Sukparu

Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its petition to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), insisting the party has no moral authority to demand action against National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.

Mr. Sukparu argued that the NPP had itself condoned violence in the past and was now crying foul only because the tables had turned.

“Yesterday, I saw the petition by the NPP to the IGP. It is good to do that, but when issues of assault happened yesterday, they were silent, and today something has happened to them, and now they are crying to people to come to their aid,” he said on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily.

The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technologies and Innovation stressed that political accountability must be applied consistently, not only when one is at the receiving end.

“When your house is on fire, I should be the first person to help you quench that fire. I must not sit to say that it is not my house, so I do not care.

“Because yesterday they were in power, they didn’t care and were assaulting members of the NDC, accusing ordinary Ghanaians and beating judges who seemed not to align with them,” the deputy minister remarked.

His comments come in the wake of an official NPP statement condemning what it described as “threats of death and physical assault” by NDC officials.

The statement, signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, cited alleged threats against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and MP Frank Annor Dompreh.

It also condemned what the party called the “unprovoked physical attack” on its 3rd National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, by Chief Sofo Azorka and his supporters.

While the NPP insists its petition to the IGP is to protect its members from intimidation and violence, Mr. Sukparu maintained that the party cannot escape the shadow of its own actions in the recent past.
