President Mahama’s ‘Reset Agenda’ sets tone for his address to UN General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama has put the spotlight on his administration’s ‘Reset Agenda,’ and the significant economic progress made in the country, while addressing the world at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his speech, President Mahama challenged what he called “implicit bias” and outdated views of African nations.

“If this reality, which is fact-based and straightforward, seems provocative or unsettling, perhaps, it’s because you are viewing it through the lens of centuries of filters, colonialism and imperialism,” he stated.

He stressed the resilience and ability of African nations to achieve a strong comeback.

Citing Ghana as a prime example, the president detailed the economic transformation the world has gone through since his non-consecutive second term began in January.

He acknowledged the initial challenges of a depreciating currency, rising inflation, and a heavy debt burden.

He then outlined the swift and ambitious program undertaken by his new administration to restructure the country’s economic foundation.

According to President Mahama, the “Reset Agenda” has yielded remarkable results in just eight months.

He further reported a significant reduction in inflation from 23.8% in December 2024 to 11.5% in August 2025, restoring price stability for citizens.

He also noted that Ghana’s currency, the Ghana cedi, has “appreciated considerably against other currencies,” with Bloomberg at one point reporting it as the world’s best-performing currency.

President John Dramani Mahama also highlighted the country’s improved sovereign credit rating as a reflection of increasing investor confidence.

He spoke of the “24-Hour Economy initiative” and a renewed sense of trust among the Ghanaian people in their elected officials, signifying progress and a shared national interest.
