Take a look at Ghana’s new multi-mission Airbus helicopter

Photos of one of the four new multi-mission Airbus helicopters procured by Ghana to boost the country’s defence, security, and air transport capabilities have surfaced online.

The images were shared in a Facebook post on March 5, 2026, giving the public a first look at the aircraft.

On January 15, 2026, Airbus Helicopters announced that it had secured a contract from Ghana’s Ministry of Defence for the supply of four helicopters, two H175Ms, one ACH175, and one ACH160.

The acquisition aligns with government plans outlined during the presentation of the 2026 Budget in Parliament on November 13, 2025.

At that time, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed that the government would begin procurement of four modern helicopters, along with one long-range and one medium-range aircraft, to enhance the operational efficiency of the Ghana Air Force.

Under the agreement, the two H175Ms will serve as multi-mission helicopters, supporting transport, search and rescue, emergency medical services, and disaster relief operations. The ACH175 and ACH160 will primarily handle transport duties.

Arnaud Montalvo, Head of Africa and the Middle East Region for Airbus Helicopters, expressed excitement about the deal.

“The commitment from Ghana marks the return of Airbus Helicopters to the country with a defined focus on customer support and partnership. We are particularly excited that the H175M will be operated in Ghana, demonstrating the aircraft’s versatility across defence and security missions,” he said.

Montalvo added that the agreement positions Ghana as a leading West African customer for Airbus’ premium corporate helicopters, the ACH160 and ACH175.

The H175, in service since 2014, is part of Airbus’ super-medium class and is designed for long-range capability, high payload capacity, and smooth flight performance. It is suitable for a wide range of missions, including disaster relief, search and rescue, public services, military operations, crew changes, and private and business aviation.

The ACH160, the newest addition to Airbus’ ACH family, is described as the world’s most technologically advanced helicopter. It incorporates 68 patented Airbus technologies and offers roughly 20% more cabin volume per passenger than previous-generation medium twin helicopters. Its windows are 35% larger than those of competing models, delivering what Airbus calls the brightest cabin in its class.
