The Ghana Education Service (GES) has debunked media reports claiming that Michael Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Teacher Kwadwo, has been reinstated in the Service following his dismissal in 2021.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations for GES, the Service described the reports as false.
“The Ghana Education Service wishes to state that the report is false. Owusu Afriyie has not been reinstated,” the statement clarified.
GES encouraged Kwadwo Afriyie, a former teacher at Akrofuom D/A Primary School in the Ashanti Region, to submit a formal written petition if he believes his 2021 dismissal is contestable, noting that such a petition would be duly considered.
The Service urged the public to disregard the misleading reports.
“Mr. Owusu Afriyie has not been reinstated. However, if Mr. Owusu Afriyie believes that his dismissal, which happened in 2021, is contestable, he is encouraged to submit a formal petition in writing for due consideration. The public is hereby advised to disregard the false reports,” the statement said
Teacher Kwadwo, also known as a comedian and social media influencer, was dismissed by GES in December 2021 for alleged professional misconduct, including absenteeism and failure to comply with school regulations.
The dismissal followed an investigation by the Akrofuom District Education Directorate, which sparked public debate due to Afriyie’s claims of unfair treatment and his advocacy for improved school infrastructure.
