Turkish Airline to sponsor top GJA award winners with trip to Turkey

The Turkish Embassy in Ghana, in collaboration with Turkish Airlines, has pledged to sponsor the winners of three key categories at this year’s Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards the P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, the Female Journalist of the Year, and the Student Journalist of the Year as part of their package for this year’s GJA Media Awards.

This announcement was made by Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the GJA, during the 29th GJA Media Awards ceremony held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Mr. Dwumfour expressed profound appreciation to the Turkish Embassy and its partners for their continued collaboration and generosity, noting that their support has been instrumental in motivating excellence in Ghanaian journalism. He also congratulated all awardees for their professionalism, dedication, and contribution to the media industry.

Reaffirming the Association’s dedication to upholding journalistic integrity, Mr. Dwumfour stated that this year’s awards aimed to recognise innovation, diligence, and ethical reporting, while inspiring journalists to contribute meaningfully to national progress.

In total, 29 journalists were honoured across multiple categories, with several media organisations also receiving institutional and programme-based awards for their outstanding work.

Speaking on the event’s theme, “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight Against Galamsey,” Mr. Dwumfour stressed that the theme reflected the media’s central role in promoting unity, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development.

He underscored that peace and stability are vital for national growth, remarking that “development can only thrive in the absence of conflict.” Mr. Dwumfour further urged the government to confront ethical and governance challenges threatening social cohesion and environmental sustainability.

He also called on journalists to remain resolute in advancing truth, promoting peace, and exposing corruption, particularly in the fight against illegal mining, which continues to endanger communities and Ghanaians.

The prestigious event, held under the patronage of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, brought together journalists, traditional rulers, diplomats, and media stakeholders from across Ghana, celebrating excellence and reaffirming the media’s vital role in nation-building.
