The Running Mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 Election, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (known as NAPO), has publicly announced his endorsement of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the party’s presidential nomination.
In an interview conducted on Asempa FM on Tuesday, August 27, 2025, NAPO stated that backing another candidate for the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2028 Election would be an act of betrayal, as reported by asaaseradio.com.
“I am fully behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. I cannot disregard the respect he has shown me among many talented individuals in our party,” he was quoted saying.

Former Minister of State and past Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, NAPO also emphasized that the former vice president is the most qualified individual to steer the NPP towards the 2028 elections among those aspiring to lead the party.
He stressed that although he maintains strong ties with other contenders in the leadership race, including Kennedy Agyapong, the former MP for Assin Central, he firmly believes that Bawumia is the superior candidate.
“Take Kennedy Agyapong—he is aware I am backing Bawumia. I can even visit him at his home,” he remarked.
