Akua, a mother of two residing in the Ashanti Region, is seeking financial compensation from Elder Isaac, identified as an elder within the Church of Pentecost in Fumso.
Akua, who identifies as HIV positive, states that she first met Elder Isaac while working for a company where he served as her supervisor on October 19, 2025, in New Edubiase.
She detailed that during their initial encounter, she disclosed her HIV status to him and mentioned that she was undergoing treatment. Nevertheless, she alleged that Isaac was persistent in wanting to engage in a romantic relationship and assured her of his intention to marry her.
Akua further asserted that Isaac claimed he had been single and without any sexual partners for the two years prior to their meeting. Based on his assertions, she agreed to enter into a romantic relationship with him.
“I made it clear that I was HIV positive, yet he insisted he still wanted to be with me. For the first couple of months, he did not use any protection. I even informed hospital personnel that I was involved with a man who was having unprotected sex with me, and they instructed me to bring him along. However, he declined to accompany me to the hospital for treatment,” she recounted.
She stated that around a year into their relationship, Isaac told her he was no longer interested due to her health condition. Additionally, she claimed to have learned that Isaac had a pregnant partner who lived with him, but they were apart for his job.
Feeling abandoned, Akua brought her concerns to Oyerepa Afutuo, a program on Oyerepa TV that addresses family disputes, on April 15, 2026, where she requested GH¢4,500 in compensation.
She alleged that after notifying Isaac’s senior pastor in Fumso about the situation, he paid GH¢1,550, leaving an unpaid balance of GH¢2,950.
Akua also mentioned that she cautioned Isaac’s pregnant partner against engaging in sexual relations with him, asserting that he had sexual relations with her without protection despite being aware of her HIV status.
“I also cautioned the woman who is carrying his child not to be intimate with him because I have HIV. He later claimed he had undergone testing and was negative,” she said.
In response to the allegations during the program, Isaac refuted Akua’s statements, claiming that she did not inform him of her HIV status at the outset of their relationship but only revealed it two weeks after they had become sexually involved.
“She did not tell me right away that she had HIV. We had been intimate for over two weeks before she disclosed it, and she later apologized,” he stated.
Isaac also contested any additional financial obligations, asserting that the only amount mentioned when the incident was first reported to the pastor was GH¢1,550, which he had already settled.
“After she reported me to the pastor, the figure cited was GH¢1,550, and I have paid that amount. Now she’s asking for more money,” he said.
He mentioned that he visited the hospital two times for HIV screenings, and both outcomes were negative. Isaac expressed that he is ready to progress with his partner, who is expecting a child.
