Antoine Semenyo has opened up on the intense scrutiny that comes with playing for Ghana, admitting the pressure has made his national team journey a difficult one.
The forward has struggled to replicate his club form with the Black Stars, despite showing consistency and sharpness in English football.
Since breaking into the national team, Semenyo has found goals hard to come by, managing only a handful in over 20 appearances. His performances have often divided opinion, with fans questioning his output and overall impact in attack.
Addressing these struggles, the forward pointed directly to the weight of expectations from Ghanaian supporters.
“In Ghana, the expectation is every ball I touch has to be in the back of the net. If it’s not, you’re crap. That’s how they are. They love football over there. Football is everything,” he said.
The contrast between club and country has been striking. At club level, Semenyo thrives in structured systems with regular service and defined roles, but with Ghana, he has had to adapt to different tactical demands, inconsistent team setups, and limited attacking cohesion, factors that have clearly affected his rhythm and confidence.
