Some social media users have called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint Hervé Renard to lead the Black Stars to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Frenchman was relieved of his duties as Saudi Arabia coach less than two months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The 57-year-old had returned for a second spell with Saudi Arabia at the end of 2024, having previously led the team at the World Cup in Qatar.
Despite his experience and history with the national side, his tenure has now been cut short at a crucial moment.
Renard, a two-time AFCON winner with Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire, was in charge of Saudi Arabia from 2019 to 2023 before being replaced by Roberto Mancini.
He later coached the France women’s national team from 2023 to 2024, reaching the quarterfinals of both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Paris Olympics.
Reacting to his dismissal, some football fans argued that he should have been dismissed earlier so the GFA could have engaged him for the Black Stars job, describing him as the ideal candidate.
Others suggested that since Carlos Queiroz was given a four-month contract, it would be prudent for the GFA to contact Renard to lead the team to the next AFCON, considering his pedigree in the competition.
However, some fans raised concerns about his current coaching form and whether the GFA would be able to meet his salary demands.
Despite these debates, Carlos Queiroz will lead the Black Stars to the 2026 World Cup, with his performance expected to determine his future thereafter.

Renard will make a good fit looking at his AFCON records and what he did with Saudi at the WC. Ghana is a better side compared to Saudi and he may do better.
Infact any coach is better than Otto. Walid too is there.

I Hope that Carlos Queiroz will do his 4 month job and the GFA will negotiate with Hervé Renard 🙏🏾

GFA can’t pay him Don

In that case, they should consider appointing Hervé Renard. However, I doubt the GFA will offer him a contract. The association has historically shown reluctance toward coaches who are principled, possess independent judgment, & are inclined to challenge their decisions.
