Middle East Situation: Black Queens secure and healthy in UAE – Ablakwa

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reassured Ghanaians that the nation’s renowned Black Queens are secure and healthy during their stay in the United Arab Emirates.
In a post on Facebook on Sunday, March 1, Ablakwa revealed that he had spoken directly with the team’s leaders and verified their good condition. He emphasized that Ghana’s diplomatic office in the UAE is actively assisting the team with consular services.
“During these challenging times, ensuring the safety and well-being of all Ghanaians, especially those who are presently in the Middle East, is our highest concern,” he stated.
His remarks were made in light of rising tensions in the area, where several nations, including Qatar and Kuwait, are reported to have closed their airspace in response to military actions and counterattacks.
It was reported that members of Ghana’s senior women’s football team, the Black Queens, faced issues due to the unrest.
The team arrived in Dubai on February 25 to take part in the Pink Ladies Cup, a four-country invitational event scheduled as part of the global women’s football calendar.
The Ghanaian group, which includes 25 players and 16 officials, is currently staying at the Four Points by Sheraton in Sharjah, located near Dubai. Team officials have advised players to prepare their belongings as a safety measure while they wait for further instructions.
